Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Group

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, demons, and dark forces expanding in strength within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of heroes who will split off from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.

This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

According to the DM, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem out of place, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

First, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, attacking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The traitor then settled his obligations and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, wants retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a nasty environment.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the party enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and Wicander defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.

This means them little choice but to travel to the remote area in search of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Explorers and Planners tables.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
